The 12-passenger Luciole cruises the Nivernais Canal in Burgundy. She was the "first ever" hotel barge, which commenced cruising in 1966.  Since then, Luciole has undergone many renovations. The relaxed atmosphere and dedicated crew of 6 create a welcoming atmosphere and attention to detail is apparent as one steps aboard.

Available for charter or individual bookings, the Luciole allows our guests to explore in comfort the intimate up-country waterways of central France.

Described as 'the most beautiful and varied water route', the Nivernais offers the attractions of an up-country waterway, a delight throughout its course.

The warm ambiance, for which the 'Luciole' is renowned is no better experienced than when gathered round a table with unfolding culinary delights with great friends.

Three air-conditioned double-bedded cabins are available, each of which can be converted into twins, together with three further twin-bedded and two single cabins on board. Each has its own private shower and toilet facilities.

The saloon with big picture windows allow uninterrupted views of the passing scene. Refreshments are freely available at all times from our open bar.

Each day in our accompanying bus we make excursions into a historic and culturally rich region - to chateaux, market towns and vineyards.
It is our great delight that meals on board the Luciole are treasured times: opportunities to sit and relax and share with friends, old or new, a summer luncheon or dinner by candlelight.

Our chef is encouraged to be innovative and imaginative, marrying French cuisine with a contemporary twist while using fresh local ingredients to inspire and spoil you. Wines from far and near are chosen to complement the menu. With Chablis on our doorstep, local vineyards are well represented; but wines from the Cote D'Or are also on our list, together with Chateauneuf Du Pape and selections from Bordeaux.

We cruise through lands where Charolais cows graze by the water's edge. Stone-built villages stand invitingly, with their painted shutters and doorways framed in roses. Centuries-old locks mark the way, a contact with a life-style where hustle knows no place.
